We stayed at the lovely little retirement farm that had been Boris's parents, with its rustic barns.
One of the last operating windmills is really just a museum piece on the neighboring island
The first thing that got our attention was a little sandbox with all the necessary tools to sift and shovel the sand.

This simple kitchen was the center of our home life when we were indoors. Notice the balalanka on the back bedroom wall.
This classic northern stove was the focus of much of Ben's attention. The flue could be redirected to heat the entire house.
Boris got us started with how to enjoy the life of Saaremaa by cooking some fish on the old stove.

This is what was left of Boris's excellent fish dinner at the end of the meal
The trip to Saaremaa was the first time Ben took the time to sketch. Here he is making a pencil drawing of the old barn with the antique
tools hanging on the log wall.
Each day, we would all head to the beach where the very fine and soft sand was hot and water warm and clear.

One of outings with Boris took us to the local fish farm where they raised trout. There was another, sea-side, farm for raising salmon.
There were always beautiful wild and domestic flowers for our vase on the kitchen table.
In the evening, before the slowly advancing darkness of summer night had taken over, Kristen and Thomas would study with
Gretchen as their teacher.
Thomas enjoyed climbing in the trees, in fact had to be called down from one when it was finally time to leave Saaremaa

An album of photographs of butterflies, spiders, and insects
